Los Angeles County adopted the 2012 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Los Angeles County adopted the 2013 Claifornia Residential Code, including Appendices H [Patio Covers] and J [Existing Buildings and Structures]. Los Angeles County, Cal., Muni Code tit. 30, ch.1 § R100

The County amended the 2013 California Residential Code. Los Angeles County, Cal., Muni Code tit. 30, The County amended Section R301.2 as follows: “R301.2 Climatic and geographic design criteria. Buildings shall be constructed in accordance with the provisions of this Code as limited by the provisions of this Section. Consult with the Building Official regarding additional criteria in Table R301.2(1).” Los Angeles County, Cal., Muni Code tit. 30, ch. 1.

 

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Commercial Building Code

Los Angeles County adopted the 2012 IBC, statewide with limitations. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.
